I am wondering if there is a basic formula or simple method to figure out what I might qualify for in financial aid?  Does it vary by every college, or by state?

    Tyler,

It does vary by every college. Some colleges offer financial aid from the Financial Aid office others offer the aid through the specific department. I would first talk with a Financial Aid Counselor from the school(s) that you might interest you. They would be able to give you a more definite answer as to what you will qualify for and certain scholarships they might have.

Usually, the formula for applying for aid goes as follows: FAFSA (federal Aid); School Aid (check with a counselor), Community aid (scholarships/loans in the area), private loans (must exhaust all options first). I would always apply for aid with FAFSA (which needs to be done every year) and then you can go from there.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
